You’ll be suprised by how much is involved in the moving process. Even with our experts on hand, getting ready for your move will always take longer than you think. With this in mind, we at CBC MOVING thought it might be a good idea to give everyone who reads this site some handy advice which, if followed, can help make the whole process go a lot smoother.
Preparation and planning are essential components of a successful, cost-effective move.
The best way to save money is to do the packing yourself. Stop by CBC MOVING for packing materials and friendly, professional advice.
Make sure you pack your belongings properly and label each box clearly. Pack your books and other heavy objects in small boxes so they’re easier to handle. Squat, don’t bend over, and use your legs to lift any heavy objects. Also, disassemble large furniture pieces so they’ll fit easily through the door.
These steps will cut down on the time it takes our movers to load and unload your belongings, and will help you save money on your move.
Be safe, smart and efficient! If you’re doing your own packing, make sure you give yourself plenty of time; at least six weeks before your move date and plan carefully. Careful planning and packing will save you time, money, and a lot of hair pulling.
Decide what will move with you and what will stay behind. There may be items that you don’t need anymore or that aren’t worth moving. Perhaps your move is temporary and certain unnecessary things can be put into storage. No matter what the answer is, decide beforehand what stays and what goes. If you have items already in storage, make sure you take a thorough inventory to ensure you’re not moving items you could do without.
Label boxes. While you’re packing boxes, make sure you label the top and sides of boxes with contents, location of contents in your house and if there are any special instructions, such as “fragile” or “open first”. This will assist the movers in putting the boxes in the correct room and will warn them of any fragile items. Also, by keeping a complete list of the contents on the outside of the box, you’ll save time digging through 10 boxes marked “kitchen” just to find the can opener.
No two moving companies are the same. Some are better than others. Choose carefully.
Beware of unlicensed movers. Watch out for businesses that publicly advertise a service of packing and loading household goods, and then when you call they also offer to provide a truck. Phone book yellow pages and newspaper classifieds often include ads for pack and load businesses.
